What happened
Cloudflare’s new feature handles partial reads of large objects without manually choosing a range size. The company says it is available on all plans through Cache Rules.
- The origin still needs to support byte ranges.
- The feature does not make an otherwise uncacheable response cacheable.

A partial read is different from a full download
Range requests are useful for seeking within video and resuming downloads. Test your own service for 206 responses, Content-Range and origin behavior. Review caching separately for public and private files. A large-file rule should not inadvertently include account responses, tokens or content requiring authentication.
What to check
- Check whether this is available, experimental or only announced.
- Verify requirements and compatibility with the versions you use.
- Run a small test in a separate project and record the result first.
